Homeschool Learning Resources for Moms
Updated: Oct 30, 2023
After receiving an overwhelming response from fellow parents wanting to learn about the resources I use for homeschooling, I'm thrilled to share my insights with you. As a mother and educator, I've put together a collection of engaging materials and resources that have enriched my children's learning experience, and I hope they bring the same joy to your home classroom! This is our home learning story.
The Beginning is Open-Ended for Dynamic Exploration
Back in August when we decided that the boys would stay home with me during the 2020/2021 school year, I amped up our at-home learning resources. Almost all of our "toys" are open-ended so that both boys are able to engage in play (they are currently 6 and 3 years old). However, with our eldest son entering grade one I wanted to support his learning as best as I could and invested in some math and literacy-specific items.
Establishing Effective Communication Channels with Teachers
I kept open communication with both of his teachers. He started the school year off from September - November in the remote learning online class. We then switched him to the "hybrid" model as we wanted him to be with his homeschool and at that point he started with a new teacher. I let both teachers know that we wouldn't be online all day but would definitely complete all of the work that was assigned. For us, when our son is in front of a screen for long periods of time he becomes agitated, easily triggered with big emotions, and very tired. Basically, he does not deal well with it. As a result, I blended the online/hybrid learning models with homeschooling. Our main goal has been to ensure that our children feel happy, loved, and safe during these times and with our own flexible schedule, it has worked for us.
Nurturing a Holistic Learning Environment Tailored to Your Child's Needs
As a mother and an educator, I just want you to know that none of the items listed are absolutely essential. They are learning resources that I have either purchased in the summer or over the years. They are items that have supported our children's learning and with another baby on the way, I am sure that we will be using them for many years to come. My purchases were based on our children's needs and interests. At the end of the day, you know your child best and if you find these helpful then I am happy to help!

Remember to Give Yourself Grace
No matter where you are in this school year, know that you are doing an amazing job! This year has been like no other and has tested us time and time again. It has not been easy but we are all trying our best. Remember to give yourself grace, mental health comes first, do what is best for your family and what makes you happy. Lead with love and kindness. #homeschool #teachermama
With love,
