A Nursery for a Baby Girl: From Mood Board to Dream Come True
Updated: Oct 29, 2023
Preparing for the arrival of our baby girl was a delightful whirlwind of excitement and anticipation but as a Children’s Room Designer, my mind swirled with ideas from creative baby organization solutions to selecting the perfect paint colours and charming wallpapers. Every detail was a labour of love. Let me take you through the heartwarming journey of designing our daughter's nursery, where cherished memories and thoughtful design seamlessly intertwine.
Nursery Magic: Designing a Haven for Our Baby Girl
This mood board is where all of my inspiration began. Creating this for our baby girl was a dream come true! Side note: our nursery furniture was pre-existing and gifted to us by my in-laws seven years ago when we were pregnant with our first baby. It is very special to us so it was important for me to work with the colour and style. The only thing I did to it was switch out the hardware with these.
A Bright Idea: The Story of the Chandelier Swap
The original chandelier from the mood board is different from the one on "get the look" because I ended up changing my mind. We installed it and right away I knew it was too small but thought, for the price, I would just leave it. Anyways, after a couple of months of walking by the nursery it continued to bother me. So I moved the original light into the closet (will share that next) and purchased a bigger one for the main space. I am so happy with the decision because the new chandelier is absolutely perfect!

The Final Reveal...
This room was beyond special for me to bring together for various reasons. I couldn't be happier with the final result. It is a blend of old and new. It is bright and airy. It will foster baby girl's development as she grows older. There is a lot of love in the tiny little details including handmade gifts from friends and family, a brooch from my mother-in-law's closet, a handmade doily by my grandmother, and my original series of Peter Rabbit books. I can't help but sit in this space and smile with happiness and love in my heart.
A few final notes ...
- I am obsessed with the rug but do wish I ordered a size bigger
- The faux fur runner was purchased in-store at Costco
- If you order the curtains, know that you can message the seller and customize the length to exactly what you need. This is what I did and they are perfect. By the way, these curtains are incredible (fabric, texture, weight). When I saw them on Chrissy Marie's blog I knew I had to check them out and they do NOT disappoint! I will eventually be ordering them again for the family room and dining room (cue my husband's eye roll haha).
Thank you so much for all of the love on baby girl's nursery reveal. I can't express how much it means to me but know that it has been extra special for me to share this space with all of you. If you try any of my recommendations please share and tag me on Instagram. It makes me so happy when I receive messages of inspiration and knowing that I was a part of it in some way.
With love,
Vanessa
